AN opticians in Bradford is showing its commitment to regional and national charities as Covid-19 restrictions ease across England.

Staff at Specsavers Bradford Broadway, located in The Broadway Shopping Centre, are going the extra mile to raise money for charities close to their hearts.

One of the store’s opticians, Rebecca Penton, raised more than £345 for Stroke Association in June by completing a 30-day fast, while optician Sam Bakes is raising money for Alzheimer’s Society by preparing to run the Manchester Marathon in October.

Raj Gill, store director at Specsavers Bradford Broadway and Keighley, said: “The staff at both Specsavers Bradford Broadway and Keighley have always been extremely proactive when it comes to raising money for charity and getting involved in extracurricular activities.

“Before the pandemic, we would have a calendar filled with local and national charity initiatives and we’re all looking forward to getting back into it as restrictions ease across England.”

Specsavers Broadford Broadway has fundraised for several local and national charities and schools including Macmillan, Yorkshire Air Ambulance, Comic Relief, Vision Aid Overseas and Guide Dogs Charity, raising hundreds of pounds since store directors Raj Gill and Dominic Doran took over in 2019.

Mr Gill added: “Giving back to the community is something we pride ourselves in here at Specsavers and we’re always looking for new and exciting opportunities to do that.

“We’re looking forward to planning initiatives for the rest of this year and beyond, and sharing what we’re working on with our loyal and new customers alike.”

The store is currently open following government guidelines during the Covid-19 pandemic.
