SHOCKING footage released by police shows the moment an elderly man was knocked off his motorbike in a hit-and-run.
The 79-year-old male was riding his motorcyle down Carlton Lane (A654) where it becomes Leadwell Lane, in Rothwell, when he was involved in a crash.
It was at 3.20pm on July 4.
The motorbiker had gone past Carlton Lane's junction with Stainton Lane and was coming towards a bend when a car, believed to be a white Fiat Panda, tried to overtake.
Another car was coming on the other side of the road at this time though and the footage shows the overtaking vehicle getting close to the motorcyclist.
The bike and rider clatter to the floor, as the Fiat drives off round the bend without stopping.
The impact of the crash forces the elderly man to roll over, before he looks to get up from the floor.
Several members of the public who witnessed the collision helped the man, who was taken to hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
Police have now released the CCTV footage in a bid to trace the driver of the Fiat, who may be able to assist with the investigation.
Officers would also like to speak with anyone who may have been travelling along Carlton Lane/Leadwell Lane prior to the incident, or just after 3.20pm.
They would also like to hear from those who have dashcam footage.
