TWO men have been spared immediate jail sentences for burgling a newsagent’s shop in Brighouse.
Jonathan Helm and Christopher Peel admitted the offence at The Paper Shop in Church Street on February 6. They were committed to Bradford Crown Court for sentence charged with stealing £700 of cigarettes and scratch cards.
Today, Helm, 30, of Lower Edge Road, Rastrick, and Peel, 36, of Arnold Royd, Rastrick, were each given suspended sentences of imprisonment.
Helm was jailed for nine months, suspended for 15 months, with 20 days of rehabilitation activity. He was ordered to pay £200 compensation to the shop owner.
Peel was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, suspended for 12 months, with 60 hours of unpaid work. He was ordered to pay £400 compensation.
