BRADFORD is set for a week of sun and high temperatures as the heatwave which began at the weekend rolls on until Friday.

The district basked in temperatures of up to 30 degrees at the weekend as baking sun beat down over the city, towns, villages and countryside.

But was it a flash in the pan or is summer here to stay? It's looking like the latter, here is this week's forecast:

  • Monday - The sun continues today with highs of 26 degrees, however there is a 50 per cent chance of a thunderstorm at 4pm, which would break the humidity nicely.
  • Tuesday - More glorious sunshine across the district all day, with highs of 28 degrees. UV levels will be very high so sun cream is a must.
  • Wednesday - More sunshine on Wednesday with a bit of cloud interspersed, highs of 26 degrees.
  • Thursday - It will be more of the same on Thursday with the sun beating down and highs of 25 degrees.
  • Friday - a slightly cooler outlook to end the working week with winds picking up a touch, highs of 22 degrees but the wind will make it feel a touch cooler.
  • Saturday - One of Mother Nature's cruellest jokes that she never gets tired of, when the weekend rolls round so do the clouds. There is a threat of rain in the afternoon and temperatures will top out at 19 degrees.
  • Sunday - More cloud to end the week, with rain forecast again in the afternoon, but highs will be slightly warmer at 21 degrees.

Throughout the week, the Met Office's UV forecast and pollen forecast will be at high levels, with the UV forecast creeping up to very high at times.

People are being reminded to wear sun cream and keep sensitive skin covered when going out in the sun to avoid sun burn, and to keep well hydrated to avoid heat or sun stroke.

Hayfever sufferers also need to ensure they have taken their antihistamines before going out to avoid any nasty reactions to the high levels of pollen in the air.
