A BRADFORD woman is "annoyed" at the council for turning on the fountains in City Park.
Wibsey resident Ellen Nesbitt said: "I'm quite annoyed the fountains have been turned back on."
Mrs Nesbitt, 83, has been shielding for the past 18 months and was looking forward to shopping in the city centre. She is upset as she believes the fountains will attract large numbers of people who want to paddle in the fountain basin.
"It's a water feature, not a bath or swimming pool," she said. "If it's not switched off, I'm going shopping in Brighouse or Halifax. It's such a shame because it is a beautiful city."
However, it is understood the council have been in discussions about not filling the basin and they are asking people to remain cautious.
Councillor Alex Ross-Shaw, Bradford Council’s Executive Member for Regeneration, Planning and Transport, said: “We’re glad that we are able to welcome people back to enjoy the fountains in City Park, but Covid-19 hasn’t gone away and people should continue to remain cautious as case numbers are still high and rising rapidly.
“We want to encourage everyone to continue to give each other space, wear a face covering in high risk places, get tested and isolate if you are unwell, mix outside if possible or let air in indoors and to get both doses of the vaccine.”
