PLANS to turn a former veterinary practice into a hairdressing salon in Windhill have been approved by Bradford Council despite numerous objections.
The plans will see the former Yorkshire Vets unit in Leeds Road become a salon, with an apartment created above on the second floor.
While the ground floor will be kitted out with two salon and treatment rooms, as well as a hair studio and waiting area to the front of the store, the first floor will be used for storage.
A metal staircase will be built to access the second floor flat, which will be a one bedroom flat with an open plan living and kitchen area, bathroom and a walk in wardrobe.
In approving the plans, Bradford Council said it was an “appropriate use” for the building.
Eight objections were made to the plans, with fears being raised about increased on street parking making the street dangerous, increased noise levels for neighbours, the “unsightly” metal staircase, and a lack of publicity about the plans.
The salon will employ five people and be open 10am to 6pm Monday to Saturday, and due to there only being three treatment seats by appointment only the Council said it will not create excess traffic or parking problems.
Before it can open, the salon must mark out parking areas in the off-street parking area, the Council added.
