A man has pleaded guilty to causing the death of his nephew by dangerous driving and seriously injuring another young man in a horror crash.
Lejan Lancaster-Baxter, 34, of Intake Terrace, Fagley, Bradford, today admitted causing the death of Brad Aldridge by driving a Volkswagen Golf dangerously on Harrogate Road, Undercliffe, Bradford, on February 3, 2019.
He also pleaded guilty to causing serious injury to Declan Aldridge by dangerous driving.
Lancaster-Baxter was re-admitted to bail ahead of the sentencing hearing at Bradford Crown Court on August 13.
Judge Neil Davey QC commended family members present in court for their dignity throughout today’s hearing.
Prosecutor Jonathan Sharp said the adjournment would gave time for relatives to make victim personal statements to be read out at the hour-long hearing.
He described it as “an incredibly sensitive case.”
Defence barrister, Conor Quinn, said medical reports would be prepared on Lancaster-Baxter who had suffered post-traumatic stress disorder following the “terrible incident.”
When the case was before Bradford and Keighley magistrates, they were told that Lancaster-Baxter was driving a black Volkswagen Golf when it was in collision with two other vehicles.
Bradley Aldridge, 19, and father to a young son, was killed in the crash.
His cousin, Declan, 21 at the time, was left seriously injured.
After the fatal crash, a sea of floral tributes were left at the scene.
On what would have been his 20th birthday, people gathered on Intake Terrace, Fagley, for a balloon release to mark the occasion.
A statement released by his family at the time said: "Our precious baby boy, son, brother, father, partner, grandson, nephew and cousin.
"Our hearts are broken. It feels like a bad dream, like we're going to wake up soon and it's not going to be true. How could my precious blue-eyed boy be gone, everyone who ever knew him speak such beautiful words of him, it means so much to us.
"Your mammy and daddy are so proud of our beautiful blue-eyed boy that you became. You are our world. You are our world. You are mine and your daddy's beginning and you will always be our all and everything.
"Until we meet again xx."
