A WOMAN suffered multiple injuries when she fell from a viewpoint in Shipley Glen on Tuesday afternoon.
A number of emergency services were scrambled to the scene at 4.13pm which took place near a car park on Glen Road at Shipley Glen.
A spokesman from Rawdon Fire Station said: "A lady in her 60s was sitting on a chair looking over a viewpoint. When she presumably got up, she lost her footing and has fallen off the rock in a heap 20 or 30 feet below.
She suffered head, hip and leg injuries and had lacerations to her hand.
A concerned family member contacted the T&A this afternoon to update the woman's medical condition.
The family member said: "She has fractured pelvis and leg, degloved hands which require plastic surgery and same for her knees. She has a fractured skull and a bleed on the brain. She is undergoing surgery this afternoon to remove twigs sticks and debris from her deep wounds."
Members of the public who were passing by the viewpoint overlooking Eldwick and saw from above that the woman had fallen down. They then contacted the emergency services.
There was massive response with Rawdon, Stanningley and Keighley fire stations sending engines and Cleckheaton Fire Station sending a rescue crew.
The police and ambulance service attended and Yorkshire Air Ambulance also sent a helicopter.
The Rawdon spokesman added: "We were first on the scene and stabilised the casualty. We treated her wounds and put her on a stretcher.
"She was assessed by an air ambulance doctor on arrival and she was carried about 100 metres to the helicopter which had landed on flat ground nearby.
"Due to busy traffic on the roads, she was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary."
The Rawdon Fire Station spokesman also issued a warning for people to take care when they are out enjoying the sunshine.
He said: "With the sunshine out, walkers need to be aware of their surroundings in places like Shipley Glen and other areas, particularly now that the hot weather is here and people have not been out for ages."
