THE site of a major fire at a fast food supply firm is being tidied up today and will need to be partially demolished.
Firefighters were called to the building, Adams Fast Food Supplies, on Thorncliffe Road, Manningham, at around 12.30am yesterday.
The road, a stone’s throw away from Valley Parade, connects the major routes of Manningham Lane and Midland Road.
Large flames could be seen shooting into the sky and at the height of the blaze, 10 fire engines and two aerial appliances were working to bring the incident under control.
People in the area were urged to keep their doors and windows closed as smoke billowed across the city.
One woman who lives in the area told the Telegraph & Argus: “I called my husband and asked if anything was burning, he said it was smoke everywhere. We checked our house, there was nothing there, we went outside, everywhere was smoky, we could not see.
“My husband told me to close the windows. The smoke was very scary.”
A pall of smoke hung in the air throughout the day yesterday as firefighters remained at the warehouse to dampen down.
By 5am, the number of fire engines at the scene was reduced to five, and later three.
Extensive cordons were in place, with roads including Thorncliffe Road, Clifton Street, Burlington Street and Cliffe Terrace closed for much of the day - and remain closed today.
The One In a Million secondary school was closed yesterday, as was the Al Mumin Nursery, Primary & Secondary and Midland Road Nursery School.
Al Mumin is also closed today.
Thomas Crompton Demolition has been at the scene today assisting the owner with the partial demolition of the back of the building, which was unsafe, and tidying up the site.
Mr Crompton said it's hoped Clifton Street would be able to re-open by Thursday morning.
A West Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Two fire engines from West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service remain in attendance at Thorncliffe Road, Manningham, Bradford today."
The Telegraph & Argus has contacted Adams for a comment, but has not received a response.
