Police are urging residents to keep an eye on neighbours' property after a spate of break-ins at student accommodation in Bradford.

A total of 25 burglaries have been reported in 14 days at multi-occupancy premises in the area around the University of Bradford.

Police have now stepped up high-visibility and covert patrols in the area, which had already been increased for the Christmas period.

Detectives believe two suspects seen fleeing from one burglary, in Grantham Road, could be responsible for what they have described as a "seasonal blip."

Detective Inspector Simon Bottomley, of Bradford South CID, said: "The majority of these burglaries have taken place at multi-occupancy student accommodation premises where the front door has been forced. When the students come back from their holidays they find their property has been stolen.

"We would urge people who are staying in the area to be vigilant, make sure everything is locked and keep an eye on your neighbours' properties.

"There has been no pattern to the break-ins. They have happened at all times of day and night and they are stealing anything they can get their hands on."

The two suspects disturbed in the Grantham Road burglary were both Asian men. One was 5ft 5ins, stocky, with short black hair and was wearing a dark blue hooded top. His accomplice was slimmer and wore a light blue hooded top with white stripes down the sides.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity, or has any knowledge of the burglaries, is asked to contact Bradford South Police by ringing 0845 6060606, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
