ASSAULTS and threatening behaviour against doctors and nurses are just some of the latest court cases involving incidents at the district's hospitals.
A total of 11 defendants have been up in court in relation to various allegations which took place at Bradford Royal Infirmary, Airedale General Hospital and St Luke's Hospital.
In the last month Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court has seen cases on the following hospital-related incidents:
- Steven Anthony Wood, 46, of Crawford Avenue, Bradford, pleaded not guilty to assaulting a security guard at Bradford Royal Infirmary and using threatening behaviour at both BRI, Airedale General Hospital and Trafalgar House Police Station, both on June 15, 2020. His case was heard in court on May 14, and has now been adjourned for a trial to take place on October 8 at Kirklees Magistrates' Court.
- Banaras Alam, 41, of Travelodge, Bradford, appeared in court on May 22, charged with assaulting a doctor are Airedale General Hospital on February 7, 2020. He elected a trial by jury and his case was sent to Bradford Crown Court, with the next hearing scheduled for June 18.
- Jordan Harris, 26, of Rochester Street, Shipley, pleaded guilty to assaulting an A&E nurse at Bradford Royal Infirmary on January 27, 2021. His case was heard by magistrates on May 12, and was adjourned for a pre-sentence report to be prepared, with the next hearing scheduled for July 5.
- Uns Khan, of Lynfield Mount Hospital, Daisy Hill, faces charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm at Bradford Royal Infirmary on January 11, 2021. The case was heard at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates' Court on May 12, and was adjourned on July 7 for the defendant to attend and for a plea to be entered.
- Arif Khan, 29, of Chellow Dene View, Bradford, is charged with using threatening behaviour on September 26, 2020, at Bradford Royal Infirmary's ward 15. He is also charged with using threatening behaviour is an incident at a separate location on the same day - at Hollings Road, Manningham. Khan has pleaded guilty to both charges and after the hearing on May 6,his case was adjourned to September 14 at Kirklees Magistrates' Court to tie up with other cases.
- Jonathon Withey, 28, of Albion Street, Dewsbury, faces charges of assaulting a police officer at Bradford Royal Infirmary on March 12, 2021. After the hearing on May 18 at Bradford and Keighley Magistrates Court, his case was adjourned until June 9 in order for a plea to be entered.
- Julius Vavrek, 51, of no fixed address, faces charges of assaulting a police officer in the Marks & Spencer shop in Bradford Royal Infirmary on November 3, 2020, as well as causing £300 of criminal damage to property at Morley Street, Bradford, on the same date. His case was heard by magistrates on May 12, but was adjourned until June 9, for a Czech interpreter to attend when a plea is expected to be entered.
- Mohammed Saddique Hayat, 35, of Stony Lane, Bradford, faces charges of using threatening behaviour on January 21, 2021, at Bradford Royal Infirmary. On May 10, magistrates adjourned his case to June 6 due to the defendant being sectioned under the Mental Health Act. He also faces charges of criminal damage to a police van by spitting on the same date at the junction of City Road and White Abbey Road, and of assaulting an emergency worker, a police officer, the day before at Trafalgar House police station in Bradford.
- Lewis Straker, 33, of High Street, New Whittington, Derbyshire, pleaded guilty on May 10, for failing to provide a specimen for analysis at Bradford Royal Infirmary, having been suspected of having driven a vehicle on March 3, 2021. He received an interim disqualification from driving and the case was adjourned until June 30 for a pre-sentence report to be prepared. He is also charged with driving a Seat Leon without insurance on the M62 at Chain Bar, to which he pleaded guilty.
- Nadia Bibi, 32, of Beaufort Grove, Bradford, pleaded not guilty to common assault and racially or religiously aggravated common assault on May 15, 2020, at St Luke's Hospital in Bradford. Her case was heard by Bradford magistrates on April 30, 2021, and has been adjourned until August 4 at Kirklees Magistrates' Court for a trial.
- Bridget Mtola, 30, of Cliffe Terrace, Shipley, is charged with assaulting a paramedic at Airedale General Hospital, on March 7, 2021. She also faces charges of assaulting three police officers the the police station on Nelson Street, Bradford, on March 11, Her case was before magistrates on May 18, and was adjourned until June 23, for a plea to be entered.
