THE leader of Kirklees Council has urged people to be ‘very careful’ after he revealed his disappointment of finding out about the new restrictions through social media.
Councillor Shabir Pandor says the government’s new guidelines restricting travel in and out of Kirklees ‘does not add up’.
He also called for Kirklees residents to follow the social distancing and handwashing guidance and called for them to have their Covid vaccines when invited.
Speaking at a press conference this lunchtime, Cllr Pandor said: “We weren’t told about these new guidance that comes out.
“I only heard about this through social media. There was no indication at all. The lockdown is easing. The vaccine take-up is high.
“To hear the news of this new restrictions does not make sense, it’s not logical. It does not add up.
“Disappointed. A complete breakdown in communication.
“Our infections are low, hospital rates are very low, deaths are very low.
“To find this out second hand is disappointing.
“We will get through this.
“You can’t have on one hand easing of restrictions and on the other hand, this. It is confusing.
“I would urge people to be very, very careful. Keep on following advice about washing hands, covering your face and social distancing.
“The guidance is clear. We need clarification on travelling in and out of Kirklees very quickly.”
