A LOCAL resident in Bingley has hit out at the "absolute bedlam" road resurfacing will cause on parking near Myrtle Park.
Resurfacing works are set to begin today on several Bingley roads near Myrtle Park, including Park Avenue, Sycamore Avenue, back Sycamore Avenue and Beech Street.
A resident who lives in the area, which has a high density of terraced housing, has said all these are roads, in addition to two others, will have no parking today and tomorrow from 7am to 7pm.
She points out that Beech Street is a busy road used by many walkers and dog owners as it leads to Myrtle Park in Bingley.
There is also Myrtle Park Primary School on Beech Street, which she said is heavily used by parents for dropping off and collecting children.
"It's going to be absolute bedlam," she said. "There are 200 plus cars in the area. That's a heck of a lot of cars with nowhere to go.
"I just wanted let people know what a ridiculous idea this is.
"Where are we supposed to park our cars? Everybody has a parking permit.
"I fully appreciate they've got to do the job," she said, adding: "Only one road should be done at a time to allow for parking nearby."
She also worried that some people will have to park in the town's car parks, which are limited to three hours.
The resident is also concerned for local people who have disabled parking bays, which will be covered by the new road surface.
A Bradford Council spokesperson, said: “The upkeep of the district’s roads is an important priority for the council for both safety and vehicle maintenance reasons.
“We understand road works can cause disruption and we do everything practical to keep this to a minimum.
“These surface treatments are incredibly quick and should only take three hours. However, the processes are weather-dependent so we have allowed two days for the works.
“The dressing should take place between the school runs and sometime between 7am to 7pm. We have advised all residents in the area and if disabled parking is an issue, we are standing by to assist anyone who needs it.
“Pavements won’t be impacted and there are a number of unaffected streets in the area so parking shouldn’t be an issue.
“The road markings will be replaced as soon as is possible but the surface needs at least 48 hours to bed in and be swept before the lines can be laid.
“We understand the works may cause some inconvenience but hope people understand that the improvements will be worth it.”
