BRADFORD'S One in a Million School was a venue for the latest launch of this year's annual celebration of national pride this summer.
The initial launch of the One Britain One Nation Day (OBON) founded by former Bradford police inspector Kash Singh took place at St John's Primary School, in Bierley, in April where a song written by the children was aired for the first time.
Joining Mr Kash at the St John's launch was Shipley MP Philip Davies and his wife and fellow MP, Esther McVey.
Ms McVey raised the event recently during Prime Minister’s Questions in April, with the Prime Minister Boris Johnson lending his support to the celebration event.
Last week OBON was taken to One in a Million School where Mr Singh said: "It’s great to see the schools in Bradford and across the county of West Yorkshire all getting behind the OBON DAY 2021 campaign in order to spread the message of unity and pride being delivered by our school children through the OBON Day anthem which was composed by school children.
"We must all pull together to lift the spirit of our children and ensure that all schools are involved.
On OBON day on June 25, Mr Singh hopes thousands of schoolchildren across the UK will come together to celebrate togetherness, unity and shared pride in being British.
Mr Singh is urging every school in the country to come together on June 25 at 10am to hold a minute’s applause in tribute to people who have worked and volunteered tirelessly throughout the Covid-19 pandemic and to perform the anthem.
James Mason, chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire said: "OBON exists to create a spirit of inclusion within society and a collective purpose which is to develop a future where we all seek to eliminate hatred, intolerance and discrimination of any kind so that all and everyone can share a sense of belonging in order to showcase their pride, passion and love for our great nation. As part of this, we want Yorkshire, as England’s largest and most diverse country to be at the forefront of this and I believe Welcome to Yorkshire can play a role in this."
Ryan Sparks CEO Bradford City Football Club which is adjacent to One in a Million School added: "We are supporting One Britain One Nation because we believe in equality and want to stamp out all forms of discrimination and come together as one. We are proud to be part of a multi cultural city."
Cllr Rebecca Poulson, leader of the Conservatives with Bradford Council added: "One Britain One Nation have done fantastic work to encourage us all to be proud to be British and to bring people together to value our communities and embrace our pride in our country. I am delighted to support the work of OBON and see first-hand how schools across Bradford District are supporting it."
OBON Day is on Friday, June 25 this year.
