THE TWIN brother of a man found dead in an old bank says the family have had to "persevere" over the past 18 months and are now hoping for justice.
Akbar Bhadshah, 40, spoke to the T&A after four people were arrested in relation to the alleged kidnapping and murder of his brother, Asghar Badshah.
The body of Asghar, who was affectionately known as Oscar and drove buses for First, was discovered in the former bank on Commercial Street, Batley, a month later, on December 29, 2019.
West Yorkshire Police believes Asghar was kidnapped on Mayo Road, in Bradford, in the early hours of November 30, 2019.
Akbar, who recently relocated to Devon from Bradford, said: “My brother was an honest, hard-working, God-fearing, simple bus driver.
“He was the wrong man, in the wrong place.”
Qaisar Shah, 36, from Mayo Crescent, Bradford and Sabbah Shahmuradi, 36, from French's Wells in Woking, have both been charged with murder and conspiracy to kidnap in relation to Asghar's death.
Shah has also been charged with conspiracy to possess criminal property, as have Sobia Syed, 37, from Henna Close, Bradford, and Zaban Syed, 60, from Mayo Road, Bradford.
All four appeared at Leeds Magistrates' Court today, with Shah and Shahmuradi sent to Bradford Crown Court for a bail hearing on Tuesday (May 25) and the Syeds sent to the same court for a plea hearing on June 21.
Akbar came back to visit family in Bradford recently for Eid.
He said it has been a difficult time for them all, but are happy with the recent development.
The 40-year-old added: “We’re pleased with what West Yorkshire Police have done in regards to justice for ourselves and my brother.
“We’ve had to persevere and have extreme patience during the last 18 months.
“Police have told us there will be justice, there will be convictions and trials – they are working hard.
“It’s about getting the people that did this off the streets.
“It’s been very difficult for us, especially with the Pakistani community.
“People come to us, ‘have you heard any news?’
“We’ve had little snippets of news, but we’ve had to keep it to ourselves because we don’t want to prejudice the case.
“We have our prayers and keep our faith in God and faith in West Yorkshire Police.”
