A TRAFFIC officer has issued a warning to the public after a driver tried to change a flat tyre in a live lane on the motorway.
PC Martin Willis - better known on Twitter as Motorway Martin - spotted a blue Volkswagen Sharan TDI that had stopped in a live lane of a motorway yesterday.
The vehicle had a flat tyre and the driver was attempting to change it, despite being 300 yards from safety.
PC Willis reminded people that if you get a flat tyre on an all-lane running motorway, you should reduce your speed, put your hazards on and get to a refuge area.
He said: "The driver of this vehicle stopped in a live lane as he had a flat offside tyre and then attempted to change it, 300 yards from safety.
"If you get a flat on an all lane running motorway, reduce speed, put hazards on and get to a refuge area.
"A wheel can be replaced, you can't."
