PEOPLE are being encouraged to take part in a national campaign to clean up public spaces as lockdown lifts.

Bradford Council believes the Great British Spring Clean is more important than ever, and this year the campaign aims to bring together communities and show some love for all those special places that helped people through lockdown.

The last 12 months have shown how important outdoor space is and how key community spirit is to the district and the nation.

Spring Clean days are to be hosted across the District by Council staff from the May 28 to June 13.

During this time, the council will remind people of what’s good for the environment is also good for physical and mental health.

Sessions will be held to help inspire and show solidarity to the people in the district.

Kersten England, CEO of Bradford Council, said: “Everyone should be proud of where they live and work and this is a great way of showing our pride. I will be heading out with a litter picker and doing my bit and I know my colleagues will join me.”

The Council wants to get the community ready for when they come out of lockdown by working together as a district to tidy, sweep, collect, trim and polish and get ready for the summer everyone needs.

The authority is encouraging community and neighbourhood groups to participate in this year’s Great British Spring Clean and to work alongside officers to clean up local public spaces.

The council will supply tabards, litter pickers, gloves, bin bags, and a bag collection service and provide advice to help residents and communities to get involved in the campaign.

Removing litter, freshening up gardens, caring for walkways and respecting public spaces is something everyone can get involved in and anyone can help ensure the district is a nicer, cleaner, better place to live work and enjoy.

Councillor Sarah Ferriby, Portfolio Holder for Healthy People and Places at Bradford Council, is encouraging the public and staff to get out and do their bit.

She said: “We all can’t wait for a different summer to last year and getting out and tidying and cleaning up our district is going to be a great way to get us ready.

“I know the team at the council are looking forward to getting out in to the community, that’s a great benefit to this scheme. Giving our district a tidy up will make this summer even better, I hope the community get involved and support the effort.”
