FIREFIGHTERS have been praised for working quickly today to stop a a major warehouse fire in Bradford from spreading.
West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service District Commander for Bradford, Benjy Bush, said: “We were called at around 2.45am this morning to a large, three-story warehouse just off Legrams Lane in Bradford.
“At the height of the fire there were around 100 firefighters and specialist officers dealing with the incident. There was significant damage to the building itself – this was a large fire that caused damage to all three floors.
"Our main focus was around protecting the surrounding properties and businesses that are adjoined to the warehouse and making sure the fire was contained and didn’t spread.
“The firefighters this morning, particularly, did an amazing job in working quickly to stop the fire spreading.
“The fire itself caused power outage to around 130 homes and businesses, but Northern Powergrid have now restored power to all of the residential buildings in the area. There’s also been road closures that police are managing.
“We’re still asking nearby houses and businesses to keep doors and windows closed as there is still smoke coming from the incident.
“We’d also like to say thank you to everyone in the area for the patience. Please continue to avoid the area for the time being.”
