An inquest was opened at Bradford Coroner's Court yesterday into the death of an elderly man who was in an accident near his home in Liversedge.
Harry Wood, 86, of Child Lane, was crossing the road on December 12 when he was in collision with a car.
He was taken to hospital and died almost two weeks later, on Christmas Eve.
The driver of a white Renault Clio, a 26-year-old Dewsbury man, has been arrested and bailed on suspicion of failing to stop after the incident.
The inquest was adjourned pending the conclusion of the police investigation.
