LOCAL residents living near Mayo Avenue in Bradford have spoken of their shock and surprise after hearing reports of a shooting in the area in the early hours of Sunday.
Parts of Mayo Avenue and Rooley Avenue were still cordoned off today after police received reports of a man sustaining a "shotgun injury" to his back.
A local resident who lives on nearby Woodleigh Avenue told the T&A: "I did hear the noise last night at around 10 minutes to 2am.
"It sounded like two shots. It was really loud when I heard it from my bedroom.
"I thought someone was in my garden. I freaked out.
"But when I looked out I didn't see anyone or anything.
"I couldn't get a clear view of what was going on."
However, she said did not believe police arrived at the scene until around 3am.
It was around that time the police had received a report that a man had walked into Leeds General Infirmary after sustaining a suspected "shotgun injury" to his back.

"It's strange because things like this don't happen on our street," added the local resident. "It's a very quiet area. Nothing really happens."
Another local resident who lives on Rooley Lane said: "It's quite distressing that there's been a shooting.
"I've never come across a scenario like this, and it's generally been a quiet area in the 25 years I've lived here."
Linda and Stephen Pearson, of Rooley Lane, told the T&A there was activitiy in the area in the early hours.
"I saw some youths stood in the area at around 2am," said Mrs Pearson. "They were gathered around.
"This group of youths looked like they were facing each other and there was a bit of fracas.
"It reminded me of schoolyard bullying."
Another local resident told the T&A this morning: "Police have taped off one of the houses where my neighbours say there were gun shots and fighting last night.
"There are lots of armed police and now CSI examining one of the houses on the street."
