MORE than 50 years after they captured our hearts, The Railway Children are back.
A sequel to the much-loved 1970 film is currently being shot on and around the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway, with locations including Oakworth Station and the Bronte Parsonage.
The Railway Children Return, about a group of children evacuated to a Yorkshire village who meet a young soldier also far from home, stars Jenny Agutter, who played Bobby in the original film, Sir Tom Courtenay and Sheridan Smith.
Here we look back at the 1970 film, and visits from some of its stars over the years.
Sally Thomsett, who played Phyllis in The Railway Children, is pictured waving to crowds as she arrived at Oakworth Station with her daughter Charlie, 13, in 2010 for an event celebrating the 40th anniversary of the film.
And Sally joined Jenny Agutter and Bernard Cribbins, who played station master Perks in the family film, for a 40th anniversary event at the National Media Museum in 2010.
Lionel Jeffries is pictured filming The Railway Children at the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway. Jeffries directed the film, based on E Nesbit’s novel, and wrote the screenplay. A hit with critics and audiences, it remains a classic.
Many local people appeared in the film as extras, including volunteers who ran the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway
