WYKE thrower Joe Cullen stole the headlines on Saturday evening, hitting gold on the ITV show, “Bullseye”, hosted by Alan Carr.

Cullen raised a total of £34,975 for his charity, Mind, alongside former England and Arsenal goalkeeper, David Seaman.

'The Rockstar' did it in style too hitting the golden dart in the red, on the spinning dart board to add even more money to their total.

Other familiar faces included ex Bradford City boss Chris 'Kammy' Kamara who teamed with 'Queen of the Palace' Fallon Sherrock.

Discussing his participation on the show, Cullen said: “My management team approached me and said would you like to go on it.

“Everyone knows what Bullseye is, so it was a no-brainer for me really.

“And regarding the show, the result couldn’t have gone much better, in terms of the money we raised for my chosen charity ‘Mind’.”

On the money raised for ‘Mind’, a mental health charity formed in 1946, Cullen admitted the charity holds a place in his heart.

He said: “At the start of March, one of my best friends took his own life, so I thought it was a pretty fitting charity to go to.

“I was very proud I could raise that kind of money for them. For any charity, big or small, to raise that kind of money is really good.

"Obviously, I was partners with David Seaman and off camera he was so so happy that we'd hit the jackpot, because the charity that he gave to was pretty local to him, and he said that sort of money to a smaller charity goes a long way."

Cullen partnered with England and Arsenal great Seaman, as the pair looked to hit the jackpot, and Cullen, who is a die-hard football fan, was honoured to team up with him.

He said: “It was an honour to play with him.

“He’s really down to earth and he’s like one of the lads that you would go to the pub with.

“I also found out he was from Yorkshire when I met him, which was a nice surprise, but unfortunately he supports Leeds.

“Being a big Manchester United fan myself, he was quick to tell me a few stories about previous encounters between us and Arsenal.

“It was great to meet him, and I could have sat there for hours listening to his stories."

Cullen hit a marvellous shot during the latter stages of the show to increase the jackpot total up to £34,975, catching the bullseye on the rotating dart board.

Discussing the timing of the shot, Cullen said: “You know what, I didn’t feel the pressure an awful lot.

“I thought I would do, but surprisingly I didn’t.

“I felt the pressure earlier on because being a professional, people expect you to get a higher score, but I hadn’t practised and it wasn’t the best environment to be playing in.

“So I was way more nervous earlier on.

"I also didn't realise the magnitude of the throw until I watched the show on Saturday, in relation to the cash that was on offer."

Cullen will be back action in June at a four-day tournament in Bolton.
