A company had an early Christmas present this year when it achieved the highest weekly turnover of its 25-year history.

Driver Hire, a transport and logistics specialist recruiter in Bingley, crowned a continuous 73-week run of growth for the business.

Bosses at the firm, which has more than 100 offices across the UK, say the achievement was due to a number of factors.

A boom in internet sales was one of the reasons, which this year were forecast to reach £13.9 billion - 42 per cent up on 2006.

The impact on final mile home' deliveries is resulting in high demand from parcel and courier companies for Driver Hire's nationwide army of temporary delivery drivers.

The company has also diversified its offering to customers, with Driver Hire now supplying non-driving logistics staff - from warehouse workers to logistics managers.

Steve Wortley, the company's sales director, said: "Businesses with nationwide operations are often working with lots of different agencies.

"This means that one of their depots could inadvertently use an agency whose standards didn't match their own. They simply can't run that risk any longer.

"With Driver Hire these companies have the comfort of knowing that all their depots are using a compliant and reputable supplier."

The company operates in an increasingly complex and competitive sector, with ever-increasing legislation affecting the road transport industry on areas such as drivers' hours, tachograph rules and even the threat of corporate manslaughter.

Chief executive Chris Chidley said: "For a start we have a nationwide network no other specialist supplier can match, backed up by a quality guaranteed service.

"More than that, it is clear that transport operators want to work with a supplier that understands the industry, its regulations and their needs.

"In short, we supply customer-focused staff who do more than simply deliver the goods.

"And that's why they're choosing Driver Hire."

The company recently conducted a reorganisation of the business as part of its strategy for enhanced growth and expansion.

Part of this included the appointments of Steve Wortley to business development director and Wayne Clarkson, as network development director.
