TWO empty units on Keighley’s iconic Cavendish Street can be converted into a restaurant and take away after new plans were approved.

An application to change the use of the two units, 68 and 70 Cavendish Street, from retail was submitted by Ashok Ali earlier this year.

The units are part of a Grade II listed building on one of Keighley's most recognisable streets.

The application said the ground floor wold become the main restaurant and take away area, with the basement becoming a kitchen and seating area.

No details of the type of restaurant have been revealed, but the business would open from 4pm to 11pm on Sunday to Thursday, and to midnight on Friday and Saturday.

Much of the row of canopied shops on the street, which date back to the late 1800s, are listed because of their architectural significance.

The application was approved by Bradford Council this week.

Planning officers said: “The proposal is deemed to bring a building back into use and would have the potential to make a positive contribution in this town centre location.”
