PLANS to install a fence around a prominent Saltaire site have been refused by planners.
In 2017 an application to demolish a small shop at 202 Saltaire Road and build a new, two-storey shop unit in its place was approved.
The work to build the new unit was carried out, but the building is yet to be occupied.
Earlier this year Joe Oade asked Bradford Council for permission to make an amendment to the approved plan - to install a 1.8 metre high fence around the site's car park at the junction of Saltaire Road and Melbourne Street.
Planning officers have refused to allow this, saying the alterations would fundamentally change the site from what was previously approved.
A new planning application would now be required to install the fence.
Shop plan refused over fears it could draw business away from Shipley town centre
Deciding to refuse the amendment, officers said: "The proposal is considered to be both a significant change of the scale of the development and would appear noticeably different to what interested parties may have envisaged because the proposal will change from an open to an enclosed site.
"It should also be noted that the proposed erection of the fence provides no elevation details or colour finish of the timber which is required given its sensitive heritage location in relation to its location to the World Heritage Site."
