A Bradford school has celebrated Christmas in international fashion.

Pupils at All Saints C of E Primary in Little Horton Green performed festive traditions from countries including Australia, Denmark, Peru, Holland, Africa, Spain and Olde England' during drama performance, Christmas Around the World.

Head teacher Susan Ward said: "We have had a traditional Nativity which the young children performed. But we have a diverse school population and thought it would also be nice to go around the world and see how different countries celebrate Christmas."

Each year group at the Kennion Street school was asked to research the seasonal festivities of different regions.

Mrs Ward said: "Although we are a Church of England school with a church ethos we have a range of cultures and religions.

"It is important that no-one feels we are biased towards one culture. We need to recognise and respect each other's cultures, faiths and beliefs. Children need to learn respect for each other's cultures at an early age.

"However, we are certainly not afraid to mention Jesus and have held a separate traditional Nativity play as well as assemblies to mark Eid and Diwali."

Year Six youngsters transported their audience to Denmark, where a mischievous elf called Nisse is said to visit homes across the nation during Christmas time to eat porridge.

Mohammed Abaid played Nisse and Siobhan Shadlow, ten, accompanied him dressed as Lucia, a Catholic saint who wears a wreath of fir adorned with candles.
