A lavish Christmas is on the cards for a Bradford couple made millionaires when they scooped a £1.6 million lottery jackpot.

The dreams of the Wright clan came true earlier this year after a tarot-card reading claimed they would be lucky in money.

Janette Wright and husband Stephen, who have four children, will wake up to presents of a new Honda Civic and a Breitling watch on Christmas Day and have planned a big party for family and friends.

And the couple have been busy spreading their cheer beyond their own household by making a donation to the Kirkwood Hospice in Huddersfield.

Mrs Wright, 42, said: "Over the years, we have sadly lost members of our family that have spent time at the hospice and we wanted to give something back. We can afford to support them so have made a donation to assist with all the hard work and care they provide."

It is only now, six months on, that the pair are coming to terms with life without financial worries. A Lucky Dip ticket, bought from the Paperland newsagent in Cleckheaton, netted them £1,633,505 in June. It allowed them to help their two eldest boys, Matthew and Thomas, on to the property ladder and they splashed out on a cruise to celebrate Stephen's birthday.

Mr Wright, 49, has given up his job as a self-employed painter and decorator while his wife packed in her job as a housing officer.

Mrs Wright said: "It has been a hectic year but finally we have got round to treating ourselves.

"This Christmas we have bought each other gifts that we would never have dreamed of before the win, and we both feel extremely spoilt."

They may be millionaires but a traditional, family Christmas is still the plan.

"We have always made sure that Christmas Day is spent together as a family and, in that sense, this year will be no different, except for the added sparkle from our win," Mrs Wright said.

"The win has changed our lives and it has taken time to adjust."
