STEAM trains returned to Craven yesterday (Tuesday) with the re-opening of the Embsay and Bolton Abbey Railway.
The 0-6-0ST (Saddle Tank) 'Welsh Guardsman' headed the first train to leave the station for several months, and was photographed by Philip Winstanley on its way to Bolton Abbey from Embsay.
Earlier this month, the steam railway received £169,400 from the Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund.
Operators of the railway, The Yorkshire Dales Railway Museum Trust, said the money would cover a wide range of costs, including audience research to help it prepare for the changes in public wants and needs caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
