FILMING for Gentleman Jack is underway in Saltaire today.
Work has been ongoing for a number of weeks to turn part of the iconic Salts Mill into an old street scene for the second series of the show.
It includes a pub, tailors and a chemist. The award-winning drama, created by Sally Wainwright, which follows the life of 19th century landowner Anne Lister, has also been filming in Halifax and York.
Parking on Victoria Road in the village has been suspended today while scenes are shot.
Suranne Jones returns as Anne Lister in the BBC series, co-produced with HBO. Bradford-born actor Timothy West is also among the cast for the series.
It is the second time the district has been used as a backdrop for this new series after scenes were filmed at Haworth Moor's Penistone Country Park in February.
David Wilson, Bradford City of Film director, said enquiries about filming in the district haven’t stopped over the past year, so we can hopefully expect to see even more Bradford locations used in the future.
He said: “It’s hugely exciting to have a production of that type, with obviously big tourism benefits to the wider Yorkshire region. You’ve only got to look at the success of series one.”
Mr Wilson said enquiries for the region were boosted significantly, but he said it helps on a local scale too, with crews often staying locally and using businesses in the area.
“I think that type of production, that has immediate sort of feel good benefits, but also long-term tourism benefits is a great thing to have in the district," he added.
