AN international photography competition is launching in Saltaire to mark a special anniversary.
Amateur and professional photographers of all ages are invited to enter the event, being run by Saltaire Inspired, Saltaire Collection and Saltaire History Club to commemorate 20 years of Saltaire’s UNESCO World Heritage Site inscription.
A selection of the best entries will be shown as part of a larger heritage exhibition, Saltaire: Foundation and Legacy, running from May 28 - June 20 in the old boardroom at Salts Mill.
Cash prizes, of: 1st £100; 2nd £75; 3rd £50; People’s Choice £25, will be awarded to four winners.
The theme of the competition is ‘International Saltaire.'
Entrants might choose to draw on Saltaire’s many historical international links, such as the internationally sourced materials used at Salts Mill or the immigration of Irish, mainland European and South Asian communities to live and work in the village.
Some people may prefer to focus on the present by celebrating the lives and contributions of local people who have come from other countries to make Saltaire their home or place of work, or consider the digital future of the village through the international business, be it large companies or smaller start-ups being run from a former millworker’s cottage.
The deadline for entries is May 3. To enter, visit www.saltaireinspired.org.uk.
The International Saltaire Photo competition and the Saltaire: Foundation and Legacy exhibition have been made possible thanks to generous support from Bradford Council and Shipley Town Council.
