TRAVELLERS have set up camp on a public footpath between Gaisby Lane and Poplar Road in Shipley.
A member of the public told the T&A the travellers arrived on Monday and set up their caravans on a path well used by cyclists and walkers.
A spokesperson for Bradford Council said: “As with every case of traveller encampments on council land without permission, we will work with the travellers and, if necessary, ask the court for a Possession Order for the site.
“When the travellers have moved on from the pathway, we will clean up the site and restore it to its original condition as soon as possible.”
A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: "We are aware of it and are liaising with the council, but they are investigating the matter."
"The Shipley Canal Road Greenway is an important route for cyclists, dog walkers and local residents," said Dave Robison, chairman of the Bradford Cycling Campaign. "Obviously we want to make sure the route is open and accessible to people but the onus is on local authorities to deal with the travellers."
