Firefighters were called to a flat ablaze today.
On arrival the Fairweather Green crews found smoke billowing out of a front window at the flat in Church Street, Manningham, Bradford, following a call at 4.10am from a neighbour in a flat underneath.
Firefighters entered the burning first-floor apartment to find and extinguish the fire.
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Fire Service said the owner of the flat was not present, and there was nobody in.
He said: "The fire was mainly contained to the living room, but the smoke travelled throughout the flat and caused extensive damage.
"Because it was quite a serious fire some of the water we used to extinguish the fire had gone through into the ground-floor flat, so as a precaution we had to switch off the electricity supply in that flat.
"We also sheeted up what we could to protect it from the water coming through the ceiling."
The cause of the fire was under investigation this morning.
