THIS week saw the start of Kay Mellor’s new series of The Syndicate, filmed in Apperley Bridge and Burley-in-Wharfedale. The drama, about a group of kennel workers heading to Monaco to find their lottery ticket, continues on Tuesday, BBC1 at 9pm.
Bafta-winning Kay has filmed several of her TV dramas in the district over the years. Here’s a look at Band of Gold (1995-97), about a group of sex workers, set and filmed around Lumb Lane; A Passionate Woman (2010), inspired by Kay’s mother’s real life affair, filmed in Ilkley and starring Alun Armstrong and Sue Johnston; Girlfriends (2018), starring Miranda Richardson, Zoe Wanamaker and Phylis Logan, filmed at locations including Bradford College; The Chase (2006), set in a family-run vets practice and filmed on Otley Chevin, starring Bradford actress Heather Peace; Fat Friends the Musical, at the Alhambra in 2018; and The Syndicate series 2 (2010) starring Mark Addy. Kay is also pictured presenting Jenny Agutter with a Lifetime Achievement award at Bradford Film Festival in 2006.
