A THACKLEY man will run seven half-marathons in seven days to raise money for the children of Idle C of E Primary School.
"We all know how tough the last 12 months have been on everybody involved within the school community, especially the children," said Richard Sykes, who lives at Cote Farm. "As a parent of two Idle C of E children, I know how much they have missed the interaction with their friends during lockdown. Everyday things such as talking, laughing together and general play became off limits to most. For many this will have been a real struggle, so I can't express how pleased I am to see them back within their school surroundings and amongst their school family once again."
Mr Sykes, who sets off on Saturday, April 17, did 31 back-to-back to 10k runs in January to prepare for the 7in7 challenge.
Idle C of E deputy headteacher Rachel Pouncey said: "We are absolutely delighted that Richard Sykes has chosen to benefit our school with his half-marathon challenge. The last year has been very difficult for all children and it is wonderful that his fundraiser will directly impact them. We are very excited and grateful to Mr Sykes and can't wait to put the money raised towards something that will benefit all pupils. Seven half-marathons in seven days is an incredible feat."
