A man who robbed two teenage boys at knifepoint to fund his drug habit has been jailed for three years.

Christopher Subham targeted the boys, aged 16 and 17, as they walked home through a subway at Shipley rail station in August this year.

He took hold of the older boy and demanded his phone, while holding a knife at his side. Both boys handed over their phones and Subham sent them on their way, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.

Subham, 26, formerly of Tyersal Walk, Tyersal, Bradford, who pleaded guilty to two charges of robbery, was told by Judge Robert Bartfield: "You wanted money for drugs. You did not put the knife to his throat, or brandish it, but you had it there. He knew he had to part with his phone, or he would suffer serious consequences.

"One boy said he was scared, shocked and frightened. You might like to reflect on how you would have felt at 16 or 17 when some older thug came up and threatened you in a dark place.

"You come from a good family. Whatever happens, your mother and father are always going to be there for you. It's time you reflected on the fact that perhaps you owe them something, namely to keep out of trouble."
