Since lockdown was introduced there has been a blanket ban on outdoor sports.

Sports venues, such as golf courses and gyms, were forced to close their doors.

However, the government released to ‘roadmap out of lockdown’ last month which detailed the exact times and dates that Covid-19 restrictions could ease.

England’s golf courses, along with other outdoor sports and leisure facilities, are currently set to open on March 29th, subject to coronavirus infection rates.

On this date, the Government is also set to drop its ‘stay at home’ message with ‘stay local’, meaning people will no longer be expected to only leave their home under the current list of exceptional circumstances.

If you are eager to get out on the green and want to start planning your next golf date, here are five of the best-rated golf courses across in and around Bradford, according to Trip Advisor:

The Manor, Bradford Road, Drighlington

According to Trip Advisor, this is the number one ranked golf course for Bradfordians to play at.

It’s in between Bradford and Leeds and is around a 20 minute drive from Bradford city centre.

According to the company website, you don’t need any previous experience or equipment to give golf a go.

They wrote: “Simply turn up and our experienced team will get you started with clubs and balls then point you in the right direction.

“You could loosen up by hitting 40 balls on the driving range or have a crack at our par 3 course.”

Former visitors have high praise for the golf course.

One person wrote: “Yes, yes, yes for golf.

“The staff are pleasant and the odd one or two will go the extra mile to help you out.

“It’s a great place to visit.”

Express Golf Centre, The Fairways, Shipley

As well as being a place where you can buy your own clubs and equipment, Express Golf Centre in Shipley is also home to a golf course and driving range.

The driving range has 32 bays and a variety of out-field targets to really hone in your golf skills.

Range card prices range from £25-£150 and ball prices range from £4-£8.

No booking is required and it’s operating on a first come first serve basis.

The course will also be open from the 19th.

Booking is required by calling 01274 491945 from Monday 1st March; phone lines will be open weekdays 9am-3pm.

Membership fees range from £80-£325 and standard green fees are £6 for children and £10 for adults.

Northcliffe Golf Club, High Bank Lane, Shipley

Northcliffe Golf Club was founded in 1921 by a small group of golfing enthusiasts.

Since then, it has evolved into a vast 18-hole golf course set in 100 acres of parkland.

Golfing memberships range from £33-£2000, depending on the type of membership to plump for.

Green fees for visitors range from £20-£45 between May and September.

One Trip Advisor user wrote: “This is a great course.

“The first is a short par4 over a deep ravine and the 18th is a stunning par3.

“The greens were all in great condition and the layout had some very interesting holes.

“I recommend you make an effort and play Northcliffe.”

It’s important to note that only members will be allowed to visit their greens for the first few weeks in April.

Posting to their Facebook page, the Northcliffe Golf Club wrote: “In order to cope with the expected high demand, bookings for tee times will initially be exclusive to our membership for the first two weeks with visitors being allowed from Monday 12th April!”

West Bradford Golf Club, Golf Avenue, Heaton Village (Facebook/ @westbradfordgolfclub) West Bradford is a classic Parkland golf course. When it was first founded 118 years ago, it was a Moorland style course, set over 90, and then 100 acres of former grazing pasture It has since found its style, and the classic Parkland golf course style of tree lined manicured fairways suits it perfectly. This seems like a fantastic gold course for players of all abilities; don’t just take out word for it- look at the sterling reviews left behind on Trip Advisor.

One person wrote: “Played West Bradford this afternoon for the first time- why have I not played here before?!

“What a lovely, interesting and challenging course in superb condition.

“Green fees were a bargain, lovely club house and staff, and the weather was great- will definitely be back for sure.”

According to the West Bradford Golf Club website, they are lowering their green fees after lockdown as they realise “the Covid-19 pandemic has had an economic impact on almost everybody”.

Prices for visitors range from £7-£23 and for members.

Balidon Golf Club, Balidon, Shipley

According to the club’s website, Baildon Golf Club was founded in 1896 and offers an excellent Par 70 moorland golf course, “with magnificent views and superb facilities.”

The second hole at Baildon Golf Club is also said to be one of the best par three holes in the country.

Green fees for visitors are £15 a head and for members with a guest it’s £10 a head.
