AN M62 carriageway reopened in the early hours of this morning, just under 14 hours after a horror crash.
The eastbound carriageway of the motorway between junction 20 (Thornham Interchange) and junction 24 (Ainley Top) fully reopened at 4.39am today, according to Highways England.
It was first closed at 2.52pm on Tuesday after a multi-vehicle collision involving four HGV Lorries and a Ford Fiesta, near junction 22 (Rishworth).
Several people were injured in the crash.
West Yorkshire Police and Yorkshire Ambulance Service (YAS) rushed to the scene.
There was also congestion on the westbound carriageway in the area and traffic was held at 3.03pm between junction 23 (Outlane Interchange) and junction 22 while the Yorkshire Air Ambulance helicopter landed.
It was then closed between junction 24 and 22 at 3.35pm.
At its peak, the westbound carriageway closure caused more than five miles of congestion after junction 24, adding 90 minutes of travel time to normal journeys.
This was removed at 5.08pm.
But the eastbound carriageway remained closed throughout the evening.
Highways England said on Twitter at 8.31pm: "The eastbound carriageway is still closed and will remain closed for some considerable amount of time."
Police and the agency were working to clear the motorway, and allow traffic flow, but asked people to avoid the area.
West Yorkshire Police has issued an appeal following the crash.
A spokesperson for the force said: "An investigation is being carried out to determine the cause of the collision and enquiries are ongoing."
Anyone who witnessed the collision, or has any dashcam footage that may assist in the investigation, should ring 101, or used the contact options on the West Yorkshire Police website.
You should quote log number: 1041 of March 16.
