AN empty lodge at a Bradford cemetery could soon become a new dental surgery.

The lodge building at Nab Wood Cemetery, off Bingley Road, has been empty for a number of years.

It was originally used as Council offices for the cemetery but has most recently occupied by Co-Operative Funeralcare.

An application to turn the building to housing was approved in 2011, but the work never took place.

This week a planning application for a new use of the building was submitted to Bradford Council.

If approved, the lodge would become a dental surgery offering general, cosmetic and emergency treatments.

The application has been submitted by Mohammed Amar, and will also include office space.

The application says the business will open from 7.30am to 7pm, although it may also open outside these hours for emergency surgery.

A decision on the application is expected next month.

Nab Wood Cemetery is also home to one of the District's three crematoria.

This facility is due to close and be replaced by a new crematorium in Heaton as part of a shake up of bereavement services in the District.

The cemetery and garden of remembrance will remain in place.
