THE academy choir at Dixons Music Primary in Bradford have advanced to the final of Yorkshire’s biggest song writing competition.

The song 'Treasures of Yorkshire', which has been sung by Dixons choir, DMP Young Voices, has been chosen as one of the top four to go to a public vote and is the only Under 18 entry in the final of the Welcome to Yorkshire’s Song for Yorkshire 2021 Competition.

The competition, sponsored by LNER, was open to any member of the public to enter and has had hundreds of entries.

The judges were Simon Rix (Kaiser Chiefs), JoJo (Capital FM presenter), Lizzie Jones MBE (opera singer), Natalie Anderson (actress), Luxmy Gopal (BBC presenter) and Dan Bates (CEO Sheffield Theatres and member of Sheffield Cultural Consortium).

The song, ‘Treasures of Yorkshire' has been written by Dixons Music Primary Principal Luke Robbins-Ross, who is also a freelance conductor and musical director.

He said: “We have an absolute commitment as a school and trust to valuing diversity and building cultural capital in our students and this was a catalyst for entering this competition.

"The project has allowed us to showcase this in abundance and it's been incredibly rewarding to work collaboratively with students and staff during a challenging period of time for so many people.

"The song is a celebration to Yorkshire and we want the people of Yorkshire to think of it as their song.

"The county has fantastic cultural diversity and we have attempted to capture as much of this as possible with some bits of Yorkshire humour throughout.”
