Police are appealing for help to identify a man struck and killed by a train in Yeadon last Thursday. The man - believed to be about 25-years-old - was hit by the Ilkley to Leeds Northern Rail service as it passed through Spring Tunnel at 3.39pm. The incident is not being treated as suspicious but British Transport Police have so far been unable to identify the man.

He is described as 5ft 8in tall with short, light brown to light red hair and has blue eyes. He was wearing a black leather biker style jacket and a similar black jacket underneath with the sleeves cut off and a row of tassels on the back.

He also wore a grey, long-sleeved polo shirt with three buttons on the neck and a black short sleeved T-shirt worn inside out. He had a distinctive tattoo on the top of his left arm in blue ink which reads "Andy".

He was carrying a set of six keys, attached to a silver penknife and red Swiss Army knife on a key fob which read "Ilkley Gazette" on one side and "Wharfedale/Airedale Observer" on the other, and a Sekonda pocket watch with silver-coloured casing, a white face and a steam train embossed on the back.

Detective Inspector Derek O'Mara said: "I would like to appeal for any member of the public who may be able to help us to identify the deceased or may have a friend or family member matching the description missing to contact BTP on freefone 0800 405040 quoting incident number 350 of the 13 December 2007."

The Telegraph & Argus reported the incident last week as it caused major disruption to the Ilkley line for several hours while police examined the scene.
