An armed gang held up a security van at gunpoint in the early hours of today.
Several shots were fired during the raid which took place at around 2.20am outside the Abbey bank in High Street, Wibsey.
Police said the Group 4 security van was making a delivery to the bank when it was attacked by the masked men brandishing firearms. During the course of the robbery several shots were fired but no-one was injured.
No details of the gang's mode of transport had been released.
The robbers escaped with a cash box from the van but abandoned it close to the scene. It has since been recovered by police.
Police are currently interviewing the security guards.
Scenes-of-crime officers sealed off the area of High Street where the incident occurred, close to the Ancient Forrester's Pub.
