A group of pensioners enjoyed a slap-up Christmas lunch thanks to the hard work of a group of Bradford sixth-formers.

The students at Thornton Grammar School invited elderly residents from the area to enjoy an afternoon of food and fun.

School spokesman Carol Wagstaff said: "The meal was funded from staff donations, as well as local businesses in Thornton village who have also been very supportive.

"Preparation and serving duties were undertaken by our food technology Department and members of the sixth form.

"The meal was followed by an hour of entertainment and bingo, again provided by staff and students, which proved a great success."

All proceeds from the event will go to the school's nominated charities for 2007 - children's cancer charity CLIC Sargent and Bradford Nightstop for young homeless people.
