A burglar who made off with a woman's sports car after breaking into her home and taking a spare set of keys has been locked up for 16 months.

It was the fourth time in a year that Angela Smith's one-bedroom cottage in Green End Road, Wibsey, had been burgled, Bradford Crown Court heard.

Sending 20-year-old Daniel Marshall to a young offender institution, Judge Robert Bartfield told him: "There was an untidy scene left at this address to greet this lady when she returned. Your intention was to sell the car, but fortunately it was recovered."

Marshall, of Kelvin House, Danecourt Road, Holme Wood, Bradford, pleaded guilty to burglary and theft.

Nigel Hamilton, prosecuting, said the keys to the £4,000 MG car were taken after Marshall broke into the property last month.

The owner returned to find a glass panel in an interior door had been smashed and the cottage ransacked.

Less than 48 hours later, he went back with another man and the car was driven away to a nearby cul-de-sac. The pair took it in turns to drive the car up and down the road before a member of the public became suspicious and called the police.

The two men walked away after realising what had happened but Marshall was arrested later after his mobile phone was found inside the car.
