ENQUIRIES are ongoing today after a horror crash which tragically killed two people.
It prompted a major response from the emergency services, who were called to the scene on the A65 in Addingham, at 8.10am yesterday.
There had been a collision involving a lorry, which was carrying livestock, and two other vehicles.
Scores of police, firefighters and paramedics were in attendance and it’s understood the air ambulance also landed at the scene.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesperson said: “The drivers of both of the cars involved, a man in his 20s and a woman in her 20s were sadly pronounced dead at the scene.
“The driver of the lorry was taken to hospital with significant injuries and remains in hospital.”
Road closures were in place in the area for much of the day, while crash investigation work got underway.
Today, a spokesperson told the Telegraph & Argus: "Enquiries remain ongoing to establish the circumstances of the collision."
Robbie Moore, MP for Keighley and Ilkley, said: “My thoughts and prayers go out to the family and friends of the victims involved at this difficult time.
“I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this collision to contact the police urgently to assist with their investigation.”
Councillor Anne Hawkesworth (Independent, Ilkley) added: “It was so sad to hear the news.
“It’s terrible and my condolences go to the families of the two drivers.”
She added that she hoped the other driver would make a recovery.
Motorists were told to avoid the area while emergency services worked at the scene.
Earlier in the day, Kyle Green, Conservative councillor for Ilkley, said: “There has been a serious accident on the A65 between Ilkley and Addingham which will likely cause severe delays.
“My thoughts and prayers with those involved in this incident as well as with their families and loved ones.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash has been urged to get in touch with police.
A police spokesperson said: “Anyone who witnessed the collision or who was in the area at this time and has any dashcam footage or any further information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 quoting log number 284 of February 18.”
