The one game to beat the cold snap in the T&A League produced a huge upset in the League Cup.

Ventnor Youth, third from bottom in the table, beat current league champions IMS Celtic 2-0 at Thornbury to set up a tie with leaders Fairbank.

There were few goal- scoring opportunities in the first half as both side struggled to come to terms with the tricky conditions underfoot.

Ventnor took the lead after the break when Amandar Singh put a high cross into the visitors area which was flicked on for Neil Smith, who beat goalkeeper Lee Dane from close range.

This brought IMS to life but, despite a series of attacks, they were unable to find the equaliser.

Instead, with eight minutes to go, it was Ventnor who increased their lead.

Smith, who hit a hat-trick the previous week, pounced on a loose ball and beat Dane only for the keeper to bring him down in the penalty area. Smith got up and scored the penalty to make the game safe for Youth and create one of the biggest shocks result in T&A League history.

Teams take a two-week break now and return on Saturday, January 5.
