There was festive fun in Wilsden at Saturday's Edwardian Fair.

The village hall played host to costumed merrymakers, with mince pies and mulled wine on offer and Father Christmas in attendance.

Tony Caunt, of Wilsden Parish Council, said he hoped the occasion would turn into an annual event.

He said: "On Friday night, we started with the children from Wilsden School singing carols in Wilsden Park, outside the village hall.

"It was very successful. We had a large choir of children from the school and a crowd of parents and people who came along to watch them."

In the kitchen and dining room are displays of period festive food.

The 19th century Red House cook, Henrietta, regales visitors with her preparations for Christmas and explains how to make forgotten desserts including Almond Shamrocks, Whim-Wham, Hedgehog Tipsy Cake and Brandied Fruits. Costumed staff show visitors how to make Regency-style Christmas decorations and unusual Victorian Christmas tree decorations. Also showing is the Christmas Past Exhibition, with displays of toys, rare Victorian Christmas cards, 1950s paper decorations and exotic Chinese lanterns.

The Red House Museum Christmas event is from 11am to 4pm, Monday to Friday, and noon to 4pm, Saturday and Sunday, December 22 and 23. Admission is free. The Valley Flutes are performing on Saturday afternoon and on Sunday there is carol singing from Gaudeamus.
