A MAN and a woman who took part in a series of assaults in Bradford have avoided jail.
Kiran Mushtaq, 29, and Anthony Coates, 36, were both under the influence of alcohol when they committed the assaults.
Mushtaq, of Sunbridge Road, Bradford and Coates, of Boynton Street, West Bowling, who are friends, caused a number of injuries to their victims in attacks in and around Bradford city centre.
In the first incident, Mushtaq assaulted a man, who she had a history of a friendship with, in a pub in Bradford city centre. The two had a physical altercation and were then separated.
They then clashed again a little later at the same venue and Mushtaq punched the man in the face and he had to go to hospital for treatment, on July 22, 2019.
In the second incident, Coates fractured the lower jaw bone of a doorman at the Drum Winder pub, Ivegate, after Coates' mother was told to leave the pub where they had both been drinking.
The victim said he could not eat food for six weeks after the incident due to the impact of the attack by Coates.
Both Mushtaq and Coates were involved in a third assault, on two men, Bradford Crown Court heard yesterday.
It involved the man from Mushtaq's first offence and a friend of his and took place in Centenary Square, Bradford at around 4.20pm..
Mushtaq saw one of the men and began shouting at him, but the man ignored her and walked off. Mushtaq left the scene for a short period but later returned with Coates.
Mushtaq and Coates saw the two men by the Alhambra Theatre and attacked them.
Coates pushed the man's friend with such force that the man fell to the ground. The man managed to get up and ran away, leaving his friend with Coates and Mushtaq.
Coates punched the man to the floor and both Coates and Mushtaq kicked the man while he was on the floor.
The assault by the pair continued and Mushtaq took off the man's trainers and threw them to the side. The man's glasses were also broken in the attack on February 22 last year.
Mushtaq also got into an altercation with the manager of the Turls Green Wetherspoons in Centenary Square on March 13 last year.
Mushtaq was drinking in the bar despite being barred. When asked to leave, Mushtaq raised her arm but did not strike the pub manager.
Both Mushtaq and Coates were also charged with a further assault on one of Mushtaq's neighbours at a block of flats in Sunbridge Road, Bradford.
A few bags of rubbish were left outside the man's door and he confronted Mushtaq, suspecting she had left them there.
The man was pushed by Mushtaq and punched five times by Coates in the incident. The man was taken to hospital with a suspected broken nose and minor injuries following the incident on May 15 last year.
In mitigation, the court heard Mushtaq could be violent when she consumes alcohol but she has stopped drinking since the assaults and alcohol was the main cause of them both behaving in such a manner.
Mushtaq was jailed for 15 months, suspended for two years, while Coates was jailed for 20 months, suspended for two years.
Both were ordered to carry out an alcohol treatment requirement for six months, to carry out a 30-day rehabilitation requirement and 250 unpaid work in the community over the next 12 months.
They were also placed under an electronic monitored curfew between 1pm and 1am each day for the next 12 weeks.
Both pleaded guilty to a host of charges; Mushtaq common assaults and a public order offence and Coates assaults and assaults causing grievous and actual bodily harm.
Judge Andrew Hatton told Mushtaq and Coates: "You both have a serious problem with drink and you Coates weigh in there and cause significant injury when you are tanked up."
