THE week I hit 60 I discovered that healthy life expectancy for women is just 63 years and three months. And that figure, from the Office for National Statistics, was arrived at before Covid-19.
It’s a few years before my retirement age of 67. For men the figure is 62 years, nine months.
Having good health is paramount to living a good life and as you grow older the chances of that not being the case increase hugely. I’ve already succumbed to a life-long inner ear condition, as well as thyoid problems, and don’t want anything else to rear its ugly head.
People say we should live life to the full and in light of those statistics they are right. Every day is important, and as you grow older, you realise that.
