A SALON owner who defied lockdown rules last year talked to officers inside her shop after opening up, but not to customers, despite claiming she would reopen today.
Sinead Quinn, owner of Quinn Blakey Hairdressing, pulled up the shutters of her Oakenshaw salon at 11.55am today and was immediately met by two police community support officers.
They went inside the salon for 10 minutes until the two officers allowed Ms Quinn to drive off in a black Range Rover parked outside.
But police later said no covid breaches had been noted by officers during their visit to the salon.
A West Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "Police did attend at a hair-dressers in Oakenshaw on Saturday.
"No Covid breaches or any other such matters were disclosed or noted."
Ms Quinn has earlier parked outside her Oakenshaw salon just a few minutes after her scheduled opening time of 9am.
She stayed parked up outside the salon in a black Range Rover before driving off after 30 minutes.
A marked police car, a number of uniformed police officers and council officials were also waiting outside the salon throughout this morning.
During her first visit to the salon this morning, Ms Quinn did have time to post a video of the scene on her Instagram from inside her car, saying "it’s just madness" that other nearby businesses - a deli and a carpet shop - appeared to be open.
In a two-and-a-half minute-long video she posted on Instagram and filmed in her car this morning, Ms Quinn said: “Football players can play, but I can’t earn a living. It’s just madness.
“I will keep you updated. See you soon.”
She was sent a letter from Kirklees Council yesterday who were granted an injunction stopping her from reopening her salon and allowing members of the public to enter.
There is a power of arrest attached to this injunction which means should Ms Quinn breach it she may be arrested and brought to court. The injuction is in place until March 31, 2021.
Ms Quinn claimed on social media earlier this week that she would reopen today despite racking up £17,000 in Fixed Penalty Notices from previous lockdown breaches last year.
