A man accused of raping a teenage girl has insisted they were kissing, cuddling and "pleasuring" each other.

Darren Fellows told the jury at Bradford Crown Court that he did not have intercourse with the 16-year-old, who cannot be identified for legal reasons.

Fellows, 26, of Thornbury Avenue, Thornbury, Bradford, has pleaded not guilty to two charges of sexual assault and one of rape.

The prosecution alleges that the offences occurred after guests at a party in June this year had their drinks laced.

It is claimed that he pinned the girl to a sofa and then moved into a position where he was on top, before twice pulling down her trousers and loosening his own. The girl is said to have been crying and telling him to stop.

But giving evidence in his defence, Fellows said the girl asked him if he was all right or needed a blanket while he was sitting on a sofa. He moved his legs and she sat down beside him. They began talking and ended up kissing.

"I asked her to turn the telly off but she said she needed the telly on in case someone came down as they would know what we were up to," said Fellows.

They were touching each other and he pulled down her trousers and his own.

"We were grabbing each other - we were just pleasuring each other I would call it," he said.

The girl's mobile was on a chair at the side of them and when it rang he passed it to her but she either cancelled the call or it stopped ringing.

Fellows said he asked her whether it was her boyfriend calling and she replied "Get off me" and stormed off.

Cross-examined by prosecutor Richard Newbury, Fellows admitted saying to the girl: "What are you doing here with me with your boyfriend on the phone? What sort of a girl does that?"

But he denied Mr Newbury's suggestions that he had fancied the girl and taken advantage of her while she was crying.

The trial continues.
